Lisa Whitaker

Dear Student,

I am pleased that you are interested in the Georgia Academy of Aviation, Mathematics, Engineering and Science (GAMES) and are visiting our web site.

My name is Lisa Whitaker, and I am the Director of the Academy. I began my career in GAMES during the inaugural academic year of 1997-98, and my priority was recruiting for the Academy. Recruiting is still a large part of my job, and I enjoy traveling around the state meeting highly motivated, bright students who are searching for an academic alternative that GAMES offers.

GAMES students are full-time college students. They take courses from college professors, and the credit for those classes transfers to the student's high school for credit toward high school graduation.
If you're ambivalent about attending GAMES, here are a few questions to ask yourself.

  • Am I academically ready for a more stringent curriculum?
  • Am I mature enough to succeed without the direct influence of my parents?
  • Would I like to live in an environment with my academic peers, sharing ideas and goals with like-minded students?
  • Would I like to complete my degree program two years earlier?

The top three reasons students choose to attend GAMES are for academic acceleration, for a challenge, and to be in an academic peer group. These desires are satisfied at the Academy through a stringent college curriculum, out-of-class academic programming, leadership opportunities, and social activities and trips.

I hope you plan to visit GAMES and MGC for a visitation day program or tour (link). We would love to show you the campus and introduce you to some current GAMESters.

Lisa D. Whitaker
