HOW TO CONFIGURE WIRELESS ROUTERS

Guide to Make Routers Access Points

These are instructions on how to configure your wireless router so that it will meet the necessary requirements to be used on the MGC Residential Network. If improperly configured, they will be restricted access on the network and cause other users to lose Internet access.

General

  1. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the back of the router; keep the power plugged in.

  2. Remain connected to the router via wireless, log into the admin console, and change the router to an access point or bridged mode by disabling the DHCP server. (For router specific instructions, see below).

  3. IMPORTANT: Step 2 MUST be completed before moving on to step 3.

  4. Plug in the Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports to wall. DO NOT EVER USE THE WAN PORT! (Please see image).
NOTE: Please do not reset the router after completing these steps; if you reset, you will have to complete the process again. In the case of a reset, always disconnect the Ethernet cable first.
