Assessment and Student Learning Outcomes
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs):
These Outcomes must be listed on the LC Course syllabus
- Students will demonstrate the ability to read critically from the Learning Community common text.
- Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of the Learning Community theme and its application to their course study.
- Students will demonstrate a critical understanding of the diverse views presented during Learning Community events.
Assessment of SLOs:
Assessment will have two parts, each one addressing a corresponding SLO. Assessment must be administered in the LC course. Professors should consider making the assessment part of a grade for the course so students will work diligently to complete it. The LC committee will complete the assessment. It will assess every 5th student in each LC course.
SLO #1 & #2: The Reading Module Quiz will be administered through MGC Online, thus all LC courses must be web-enhanced. Information about the implementation and use of the Module will come from the LC Committee prior to each semester.
SLO #3: Students are given a short assignment covering a campus event (selected by the professor). In the assignment, students should demonstrate an understanding of how the event exemplifies the LC theme. Students should react to the event in a critical way, voicing their own view of the topic covered at the event.
