Degree Requirement Modification
Students are expected to complete all degree requirements for graduation in their major. In accordance with MGC policy, only under unavoidable and exceptional circumstances will the faculty permit substitution for or exemption from the prescribed curricula. The ADA requires that colleges offer reasonable accommodation to qualified students; however, it does not require the adjustment of standards that would fundamentally alter degree requirements. In addition, the Board of Regents does not support Math substitutions for core curriculum requirements.
Procedure
If it becomes necessary to request deviation from the prescribed course of study, students should contact the Office of Student Services in order to request this support. The Office of Student Services will then review the students' documentation and submit a letter to the student's advisor and the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) requesting considerations based on a disability. In accordance with MGC Policy, requests for course substitutions must be approved by the Director of Student Services, the student's advisor, the VPAA, and the Registrar. A "Request for Course Substitution/Waiver" form must be completed and signed by the Director of Student Services, the student's advisor, the VPAA, and the Registrar before approval is official.
