Records Maintenance
Student files are confidential and are kept in a secured location in the Office of Student Services. Records for students with disabilities are maintained in the Office of Student Services until 5 years after last contact.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 protects the privacy of educational records, establishes the rights of students to inspect and review their educational records, and provides guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data. The Office of Student Services complies with this act as outlined in the MGC Catalog.
Correspondence with students registered with the Office of Student Services will usually be made by electronic mail. Students are encouraged to check their MGC assigned e-mail accounts for announcements regarding the Office of Student Services, deadlines, and appointments.
Procedure
Completion of the Voluntary Disclosure Form sent by the Admissions Office to a new student at the time of acceptance allows formal communication with the MGC Office of Student Services and the student. Communication with other individuals outside of the college, such as parents, can be authorized by the completion of the release of information form. This form allows the student to detail his/her wishes regarding the release of information.
Students should periodically check their MGC e-mail accounts for specific announcements regarding the Office of Student Services, deadlines, and appointments.
