Resident Student Health Services Procedures
EFFECTIVE August 1, 2011Middle Georgia College has contracted with local physicians listed below to provide routine health services to students residing in the College's residence halls. This service and policy covers basic, routine office visits ONLY for temporary care for acute medical conditions. The College is not responsible for repetitive care and doctors visits for routine or sports physicals, chronic or on-going conditions, and/or diseases. Examples of repetitive care for which the College is not responsible include, but are not limited to, diabetes, pregnancy, allergies, or post-surgical treatments.
When services are provided in accordance with this policy, the College is responsible for payment of the physician's basic office visit charge only. All other expenses incurred for ancillary treatments including, but not limited to, prescriptions, x-rays, lab tests, etc., are the responsibility of the student. Students should be prepared to pay out of pocket or provide to the physician their private insurance information for charges which are the responsibility of the student and are not covered by the College.
Upon request, the College Police Department (934-3002) may provide transportation to/from the physician's office. In case of critical illness or injury the local ambulance service may be called by the College PD or other College official. All charges for ambulance service are the responsibility of the student.
To receive medical treatment by a participating physician, students should call the physician of choice from the listing below during regular office hours to arrange for an appointment. Walk-ins will be treated as time permits but appointments made in advance are highly recommended. Students MUST identify themselves as MGC students when making an appointment and MUST show a valid MGC I.D. when reporting for treatment at the physician's office. Failure to do so will result in the student being responsible for all charges for that office visit.
Questions regarding student health services should be directed to the Office of Student & Public Affairs (478-934-3352).
