For Bachelors, Associates and Associates of Applied Science degrees:
Freshman / Freshman Transfers:Freshmen are those students who have graduated from high school within the last five years and have less than 30 transferable semester hours or 45 transferable quarter hours from a regionally accredited college or university. The admissions requirements include a minimum academic core grade point average of a 2.0 for students with College-Prep diplomas and a 2.2 for students with a Tech-Prep/Vocational diploma.
Transfer Freshmen must meet these requirements and be in good standing at their former institution. Official transcripts from all institutions attended are required.
Students who graduate with a GED must submit official scores showing a passing score and their high school graduating class must have already graduated.
Non-traditional: Non-traditional students are those who have graduated from high school more than five years ago and do not have 30 transferable semester hours or 45 transferable quarter hours from a regionally accredited college or university. Students are required to submit official high school transcripts showing a graduation date or official GED scores. Any college or university transcripts are all also required.
Transfers: Transfer students have acquired more than 30 transferable semester hours or 45 transferable quarter hours from a regionally accredited college or university. The admissions requirements include a 2.0 grade point average and good standing. Applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.
Home School: Students from home school programs must submit a transcript from their home school program or they can fill out the MGC Home School application. A student whose SAT I Composite (critical reading plus math) score is at or above 920 and has completed the equivalent of the college prep curriculum areas as documented in a home school transcript or the Home School Application qualifies for consideration of admissions. Students in this category must also meet the SAT critical reading score of 430 (or ACT English 17) and SAT math score of 400 (or ACT math 17). Applicants from home schools do not have to take the GED to be considered for admission; however, if a student does take the GED and submits a passing score, the SAT scores are not then required and the student is classified as a freshman applicant.
International: Students from other countries must submit an official copy of the student's translated high school transcript and college transcript(s) if the student has attended one or more colleges. The college transcript must evaluated by an accrediting agency if it is not a US institution. MGC requires a TOEFL score of 527 or more for the paper-based test or a 197 or more for the computer-based test or 71 or more for the internet-based test. If the student's native tongue is English, the TOEFL is not required. Scores from an SAT or ACT exam may exempt a student from the COMPASS placement exam. International students must submit a guarantee-of-finances statement.
For Certificates: Students attending MGC as certificate seeking students must submit either an official final high school transcript with a graduation date and diploma type or official passing GED scores. If a certificate seeking student has attending a college or university, then an official final college transcript from the last institution attended is required.
Most certificate programs have COMPASS or SAT/ACT score requirements. The surveying certificate programs do not have such requirements. Students are required to complete the admissions application process before taking the COMPASS exam.
For Other Applicants:
Transient: Transient students are those who have been taking courses at a college or university and wish take a semester at MGC before returning to their home institution. These students are required to submit a Transient Permission Letter from their home institution.
ACCEL/ Joint Enrollment: Students in the 11th or 12th grade who meet all eligibility requirements may take college courses as joint-enrollment students. The tuition will be covered by the HOPE Scholarship program. Students are required to have a "B" high school average in academic subjects, be enrolled in the College Prep Curriculum, and a minimum SAT scores of 970 with a critical reading score of at least 430 and a math score of at least 400 or ACT composite score of 21 with an English score and a math score of 17. If English, math, or social science course is to be used to satisfy both high school college prep requirements and for college credit, an SAT critical reading score and math scores of 530 or an ACT English and math score of 23 is required. Completion on the ACCEL paperwork is also required.
