RDED 4124 Content Literacy Biography Graduating from Western Carolina University in 1995, I had a passion for working with children in reading and literacy. It was there that I worked in the WCU Reading Center developing plans to help children gain strategies to improve their reading. I taught middle school while earning my MA in Middle Grades Language Arts. After being offered a position as a middle school assistant principal, I chose to go back to further my education. At the completion of my courses for the Ph.D. program, I worked as a principal of an elementary school for 5 years. It was during this time that I was honored as Principal of the Year by the school district. While working in this position I helped write the school Reading First grant. In 2008 I left public education and worked at Pfeiffer University as Associate Professor of Elementary Education. As of 2011, I have been teaching literacy classes at MGC in the Department of Education.
