    Teaching methods:
Traditional course: The course will be taught chiefly by interactive lecture, group activities, lab exercises, and assignments. No sharp distinction exists between class and lab. The emphasis for learning will shift from teacher centered (by lecture) to student centered. The traditional lab activities are inserted into the course where appropriate. The content is based on the outlines and diagrams from the Study Guide and the textbook plus computer courseware, simulations, and animations. Anatomy will usually be learned using microscope slides, human skeletons, the human torso model, preserved specimens, and various organ and tissue models. This is a web-enhanced course with assignments offered through Web CT. The assignments include review topics, sample test questions, answers to homework problems, and quizzes.
On-line course: The course is divided into eight units (“chapters”) generally corresponding to a major topic. The units include an outline of course content and lab exercises. Instead of lecture, content will be delivered by reading assignments in the Study Guide and the textbook, video clips on YouTube, and a unique use of quizzes described below under “Grading”. The readings, quizzes, and lab exercises are intended to promote understanding of the material by encouraging active learning.

The Lab Exercises in the web site consist of the exercises in the traditional lab manual (the Lab Manual) formerly purchased by students at the college bookstore. In addition, labs for this course are based on exercises in the LabPaq Manual included in the LabPaq kit. Approximately eight exercises in the LabPaq Manual are used, either entirely or with certain sections omitted. In addition you are responsible for the entire Introduction to the LabPaq manual. Before beginning the lab exercises, read the introductory material beginning with the Preface and continuing through Safety Procedures. You are responsible for the information found in these pages.
