Identify the markings outlined below. Tendons of muscles that attach to the markings, structures that pass through holes, and alternate terms are listed in parentheses.

On all vertebrae identify the following:

Body (Centrum) - the round part of the vertebra as seen from the front
Vertebral foramen (spinal cord) – the canal extending down the spinal column in which the spinal cord is located; not visible from external view.
Spinous process - the posterior extension from each vertebra seen as the "bumps" down the middle of your back (tendon of trapezium, latissimus dorsi muscles)
Transverse process - lateral extensions on either side of each vertebra in the spinal column (C2-C7, tendon of scalene muscles; T12-L5, tendon of psoas major muscle)
Superior articular process – observe a lumbar vertebra carefully; you will see that it articulates with the vertebra above by a projection; this projection is lateral compared to the inferior articular process from the vertebra above.
Inferior articular process - observe a lumbar vertebra carefully; you will see that it articulates with the vertebra below by a projection; this projection is medial compared to the superior articular process from the vertebra below.

Between the vertebrae identify:

Intervertebral foramina (spinal n)
