Motivation Statement
The motivation statement is encouraged for all scholarships and is required for most, including the Scholarship of Opportunity, Alumni Scholarships, and Aviation Scholarships. All statements should include information on your motivation for enrolling in Middle Georgia College and should mention any previous MGC scholarships received. To be eligible for the following scholarships you must include the information specified. Please note some scholarships require an additional essay.
This is NOT a list of all of the scholarships that we offer. This is a list of scholarships that require Motivation Statements.
Alumni Association Scholarships: Statement must be a one-page, typed essay outlining how you feel your enrollment at Middle Georgia College will benefit you and the college. The essay should include your long-term goals and career aspirations. NOTE: Only children and grandchildren of MGC Alumni are eligible for these scholarships.
Atlantic Southeast Airlines Aviation Scholarship: Statement must highlight how the applicant came to be a student a Middle Georgia College and why they should be considered for the Atlantic Southeast Airlines Aviation Scholarship. A recommendation from the Program Advisor and a personal resume are also required. Only students who are enrolled in any aviation-degree or certificate program and who have completed a semester of program-specific courses are eligible.
Ed Allen Memorial Aviation Scholarship: Statement must highlight how the applicant came to be at Middle Georgia College and explain why the applicant should be awarded the Ed Allen Memorial Scholarship. Recommendations from the Program Chair and the Director of the Eastman Campus are also required. Only students who are enrolled full-time in an aviation-related diploma or associate degree program are eligible for this scholarship.
Ed Ratigan Scholarship: In addition to the motivation statement, the applicant must submit an essay which cannot exceed 500 words and must identify an article or book on any aviation or leadership subject, and how it benefitted the applicant. Essay must be typed. A recommendation from any aviation faculty member and a personal resume are also required. Only students who are enrolled full-time in an aviation certificate, associate, or bachelor’s program are eligible.
Gannaway Memorial Aviation Scholarship: Statement must highlight how the applicant came to be a student at Middle Georgia College and explain why the applicant should be considered for the Gannaway Memorial Aviation Scholarship. A Recommendation from the Chief Flight Instructor or Assistant Flight Instructor and a personal resume are also required. Only students who are enrolled full-time in any aviation degree or certificate program in Flight Technology and are enrolled in classes leading to a pilot rating are eligible for this scholarship.
George T. Douglas Aircraft Structural Technology Scholarship: Statement must highlight how the applicant came to be a student at Middle Georgia College and explain why the applicant should be considered for the George T. Douglas Aircraft Structural Technology Scholarship. A recommendation from the Program Advisor and a personal resume are also required. Only students who are enrolled full-time in any aviation degree or certificate program in Aviation Structural technology and have completed a semester of program-specific courses are eligible for this scholarship.
Gulfstream Aerospace Award of Excellence in Aviation Maintenance: Statement must include a paragraph entitled “Why I deserve to receive the Gulfstream Aerospace Award of Excellence in Aviation Maintenance.” A recommendation from the Program Advisor and a personal resume are also required. Only students enrolled in an AMT program at Middle Georgia College who indicate they are planning to find employment in general aviation after graduation are eligible.
Ocmulgee EMC College Scholarship (Aviation): Statement must be accompanied by an autobiographical sketch of 500-750 words which references the applicant’s career plans and goals. A recommendation from the Program Advisor and a personal resume are also required. Only students who are enrolled in any aviation-related degree or certificate program, have completed a semester of program-specific courses, and live in a household serviced by Ocmulgee EMC are eligible for this scholarship.
