Clearing Your Internet Cache
Instructions for Clearing Browser Cache
If you are using Internet Explorer, the directions are as follows:
- Close all open internet browser sessions
- Open Internet Explorer
- From the menu, click TOOLS (in the latest version of IE, click ALT to get Tools to appear)
- click INTERNET OPTIONS (should open to GENERAL tab) click DELETE TEMPORARY FILES
- when pointer reappears, click DELETE COOKIES
- when pointer reappears, click OK
- Close Browser
If you are using Firefox, the directions are as follows:
- Close all open internet browser sessions
- Open Firefox
- From the menu, click TOOLS
- Click CLEAR RECENT HISTORY
- Close Browser
If you are using Safari, the directions are as follows:
To empty the cache, press Control-Alt-E, and then click Empty.
Clearing Your DNS Cache
When you visit a website using your browser, your computer will store information about that site so that it does not have to look it up again. Unfortunately, sometimes that information may change and your computer may not have the latest information about the site.
You can use the instructions below to clear your cache, ensuring you have the latest information about all the websites you visit.
Windows®, 2000, Vista®, Windows 7
- Close all open internet browser sessions
- Open the Start menu
- Go to Run
- In the Run text box, type: ipconfig /flushdns
- Press Enter or Return, and your cache will be flushed
If you do not see the Run command in Vista, search for "run" in the Search bar.
Mac OS®
- Go to Applications
- Go to Utilities
- Open the Terminal application
- Type: dscacheutil -flushcache
- Press Enter or Return, and your cache will be flushed
