MIDDLE GEORGIA COLLEGE CELEBRATES HONORS DAY

Cochran, GA) – Middle Georgia College celebrated its students’ achievements on March 29 with the 62nd Annual Honors and Awards Day. Students were recognized for their community service and extracurricular achievements as well as their academic accomplishments. MGC President Dr. Michael Stoy presided over the event. Michael A. Knight and H. Gene Behrends won the highest sophomore grade point average (GPA) and the highest senior GPA awards, respectfully. They each gave an Honor’s Address.
Dr. Mary Lou Frank, the Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs, presented the Academic Honors. Students who made the dean’s list two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine times were recognized, as well as the students with the highest GPA as a freshman, John Carr; the highest GPA as a sophomore, Michael Knight; the highest GPA as a junior, Hasala Simittrarachci; the highest GPA as a senior, H. Gene Behrends; and the highest part-time GPA, Richard Yoder. Departmental awards were also given to distinguished students in individual departments.
Dr. Robert McTyre, the chair of the Honors and Awards Committee, recognized the students who had been nominated for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges: Alisha Arora, Brittany Badgett, Eddie Barnes, Jessica Cannon, Matthew Chitwood, Alisa Fulford, Michael Graul, Margaret Higginbotham, Alyssa Hutcheson, Ashleigh Kersey, Michael Knight, John Merritt, Aliya Rowley, and Joe Simpson.
Cochran Student Government Association (SGA) Chair Matthew Chitwood, Dublin SGA Chair Dillan Aycock, and Eastman SGA Chair Brittany Badgett presented the SGA Special Awards honoring faculty and staff. Phillip Gibbs, a professor of History at the Cochran campus, Rhonda Crombie, an assistant professor of English and Reading at the Dublin campus, and Adam Holloway, the Chief Flight Instructor at the Eastman campus, were recognized in appreciation of their extraordinary dedication to and support of students.
Jennifer Brannon, the Interim Vice President for Student and Public Affairs, presented the Activities Awards. The Outstanding Club Award went to the Student Art League, with the Science Club earning 2nd place and the Anime Club earning 3rd place. Students were also recognized as outstanding club and organization members. Khirri Virgil won the Service and Leadership Award, the highest non-academic award.
