![]() LEARNING SUPPORT LEARNING COMMUNITY Middle Georgia College has created a new program to meet the special needs of students who require remediation in all three subject areas—Reading, English and Math. The program will include the three Learning Support courses; Reading 0099, English 0099 and Math 0099, a Freshman Orientation course; MGCS 1101, and an Oral Communications course; COMM 1101. The courses are linked together in a Learning Community—a group of students who learn together. In addition to learning together, the small group of students chosen for this unique opportunity will experience college life outside the classroom. They will attend special workshops, events, and activities that will reinforce the objectives of the classroom while teaching important social skills and responsibilities. To complete the community the students will be housed together in the same residential hall sharing a common living and study area. The students will, through daily living and learning, build relationships with their fellow students and faculty instructors. In addition to these valuable and essential relationships, this Learning Community will have a team of support personnel including academic advisors, student success advisors and mentors, academic resource advisors, peer tutors and mentors, residential dorm assistants and campus counselor who will be invested and involved in the success of every member of the Learning Community. |
