African-American Male Initiative
Mission:
The mission of AAMI is to provide real-world experiences for AA males that will ensure success academically, professionally, and socially through the development in education/retention; leadership; social justice issues; community involvement; and cultural and spiritual enlightenment.
Services:
AAMI will support and encourage academic success through high levels of involvement in college life and through positive interactions with community mentors, faculty, and staff. AAMI will provide opportunities to take responsibility for learning, explore self, build new relationships, and self-reflect. AAMI will give the AAM a sense of belonging and the freedom to grow academically, personally, and socially. They will make stronger connections to the college and academic curriculum. AAMI provides a social/learning community by attending weekly tutoring, discussions, group counseling, mentoring, and participating in cultural activities and events.
Goals:
✦ To offer career-exploration resources that provides a context for learning
✦ To promote a culture in which learning and exploration are valued
✦ To provide mentoring, tutoring, and other support services which improve retention and graduation rates
Location:
The AAMI Coordinator is located in the lower level of Roberts Memorial Library (G9).
The AAMI Coordinator will be available (specified days) in the Student Success Center on the Dublin Campus (LIB 206).
The AAMI Coordinator will be available (specified days) in the Student Success Center on the Eastman Campus (Room 1181).
