Regents' Testing

The Regents' Test is designed to certify the reading and writing competency of all students seeking an associate's or bachelor's degree in the University System of Georgia.

The exam has two sections: Essay and Reading.  Students are given 60 minutes to complete each section and are required to take both sections at one sitting.  The Essay section requires the student to write a clear, organized essay on one of four topics;  the Reading section requires the student to demonstrate reading comprehension skills.

Students may choose to take the test any time before 45 semester hours are completed; completion of English 1101 is recommended before taking the test.  Students who have earned 45 credit hours and have not satisfied the requirements must take the Regents' Skills courses during each subsequent semester of enrollment.

Students transferring from one school to another within the University System of Georgia must comply with all University System rules.  Transfer students with 30 or more semester hours from an institution or program that does not require the Regents' Test should take the test during their 1st semester of enrollment at MGC.

Preparing for the Regents' Test

Detailed information about the exam, practice reading tests, and an approved list of sample essay topics are available on the Regents' Testing web site at http://www2.gsu.edu/~wwwrtp/
